Stanley Olaf Wellman
I'm trying to find anything at all on one Stanley Olaf WELLMAN, (born abt. 26 Jan 1921 in UNK, died 19 Feb 1945 in the initial attack on the island of Iwo Jima.
He was a Private (USMCR) and was probably attached to the (Battalion Landing Team) 3rd Battalion, 28th Regiment, 5th Marine Division (Reserves), very likely as an Rifleman
He was married (name UNK).
His home of record was 912 4th Street, De Pere, WI (at least as early as 1940) at the time of death.
He was killed in action and buried on Iwo Jima, but later was exhumed and transported in 1949 to Escanaba, Delta County, Michigan where he was re-interred in Potter's Field at Lakeview Cemetery.
I don't know who his parents were, or his siblings (if any).
Blank wall! I'm trying to establish whether or not he's a relative (he was buried here some 120-miles from his home of record for some good reason), and also for general history purposes for our local version of "The Wall" of KIA/MIA Veterans of Delta County, Michigan.
I'd greatly appreciate any information anybody might have at their disposal!
Thanks in Advance!
