My mother's maternal grandmother's name, as given in the family Bible, was Rosa Hellen Wellman, born Feb 7, 1847 in Providence, R.I., died in Orange N. J.. November 24, 1920. She married Isaac Chauncey Smith on June 3, 1875. At that time she was a resident of Elizabeth, N. J. It appears that she was the second wife of Isaac Chauncey Smith, his first wife being Rachel A. Tupman. Her name is also given as Rose Ellen. One of her daughters was Mary Alice Smith Matthews who was my maternal grandmother. Tradition has it that she was adopted, but I have no information when, by whom or if the name I have is her adopted or birth name. I would appreciate any information about Rosa or the Providence Wellman family.
