Hi Ginny, Did you ever straighten out the John Cox \ Judith Sexton or Sussanah Groom mystery. I would like to straighten out my records. I have that John and Judith Sexton Cox had son Flourney, married to Elizabeth Wellman, dau of Bennett Wellman. I also have that their daughter Elizabeth Cox md John Sammons. They had daughter Sarah Ann Sammons who md Strother Fitzpatrick and they had dau Gypsey who md Lott Wellman my g.grandfather. Now I want to know if you have final proof that John Cox and Sussanah Groom were the parents of Flourney or if Judith Sexton was the mother, or if John Cox md. second Sussanah Groom. John was most likley the John Cox murdered by his son in law in 1823 because it was stated that he had a son Flourney. I obtained most of this information from a manuscript in Franklin KY at a research center. The manuscript did state that John was murdered and his wife was a Judith Sexton. Maybe they were mixed up. At any rate you have to be right about the dates on the tombstones of John and Judith Cox being too young to be the parents of Flourney, but maybe they had a son named Flourney also, as you well know family names were repeated over and over and over! I have a family portrait of Van Buren Wellman father of Lott Wellman taken in the late 1800's. if you are interested. Hope you can help me clear some of this up, as we genealogist must stick together. Thanks in advance, Gary Brooks , grandson of Beatrice Wellman.
