I have a letter written in a beautiful hand by Abijah Wellman dated Oct 15 / 54 (1854?) from Oberlin College when he was a student there.His mother, Keziah Joslin, was the sister of Sophia Joslin, my ancestor, and Mary Joslin (LeRoy).The letter was addressed to Uncle (Dr. Francis L. LeRoy), Aunt (Mary Joslin), and Cousin (Jennie LeRoy).
He (Abijah) attended prep school in 1854-55 (Oberlin College Archives).He was b May 6, 1836 in Friendship, NY, married Sept 17, 1863, Kate Miner, dau of Hon Asher Wetmore Miner and Electa R.He was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Civil War and was wounded at Fair Oaks in 1862.He became a State Senator from the 30th senatorial district of New York in 1873.(Wellman genealogy).
