Thank your very much for your kind response. You mention in your 2nd post that the Welling/Snedeker marriage occurred at Grace Church, Jamaica. I have not been able to locate marriages for that Church in that time frame (seems to be a gap from the 1730s to 1769.) The 1765 date is from marriage licenses granted in the State of NY, with no specificity re: place of application or marriage. Where did you find this? For Jane Wellings, I opt for the one on the 1740s list of schoolchildren. I would guess that "my" Jane was born ca 1742 and would have been in school late 1740s. Jacobus/James Snedeker, son of an earlier Jacobus Snedeker, was probably born abt 1742, and certainly raised, in Oyster Bay, Queens, NY. It appears that his father remained in Oyster Bay, but James and his brother, John, moved to Dutchess Co., whether before or after marriage is uncertain, but certainly after attaining adulthood. The eldest known daughter of James/Jacobus was "my" Elizabeth, baptised at Fishkill RD church 1766. James served in the Rev. militia in Dutchess, but returned to Newtown, Queens by 1790, where he is on the census and where his eldest daughter married 1791 the son of a man who lived 2 houses away per the 1790 census (Nathaniel Renne, son of Samuel Renne.) It would seem that some of the Wellings also moved to Dutchess about the same time as the Snedekers (The Ways of Newtown moved at the same time. Wonder why?) And some in all families appear to have returned to LI. I saw, somewhere, info that a Welling died and left property to his nephews, sons of his brother, William, land in Nine Partners (think that's in Dutchess.) In any event, Nathaniel Renne and Elizabeth Snedeker had probable children: Eliza b abt 1792 & married a Clark; James b abt 1793 & m Phebe, possibly Denton; Jane b abt 1794 & m a Duncan; prob Mary b abt 1796 unm in 1850; Thomas W. b 1799-1800 & m Susanna; Julia b abt 1810-12 & m John VanCott; & Esther b abt 1814 & unm in 1850. The ages of the children jibe with the 1800 & 1810 census. The names of the kids of Nathaniel & Elizabeth (Snedeker) Renne jibe with verbal family history, scattered documents, family names, i.e. Eliza after Nathaniel's wife; James Albert after Elizabeth Snedeker's father, James/Jacobus, & uncle Elbert; Jane after Elizabeth Snedeker's mother, Jane Welling; Mary after Nathaniel's mother, Mary Fish; Thomas W., which might stand for Thomas Welling, whom I suspect to be the maternal grandfather of Elizabeth; Julia has no known predecessor; Esther after Elizabeth's sister who married John Bugby of Newtown, Queens. Descendants of James Albert were "relatives in some degree" to my mother (I'm the gr gr grd of Julia (Renne) VanCott; these "relatives" descend from James Albert and lived next to Julia & John VanCott 1850 & 1860. Julia's son documented photos of Thomas W. Renne and Jane (Renne) Duncan as "aunt" & "uncle" and a grandson of Thomas as "cousin." I now live in Central FL with research capability limited to microfilms ordered from LDS. So if you are willing to try to check this out for me in LI records, I would be most appreciative. Again, thanks for your help. bobbi Notify Administrator about this message?
