Hello! I have been researching the Welles, too. My grandmother was a Wells, and my direct line begins with Thomas Welles b.1566 in Colchester. However, I have found no direct link to Gov. Thomas Welles of Connecticut. The Thomas Welles who came over on the "Susan and Ellen" in 1635 is my 9th great grandfather, and was a Deacon in Ipswich, Mass. My direct line continues on with, Rev. Thomas Wells b.1646 in Ipswich, Titus Wells b.1675 in Amesbury, Mass, Capt. Thomas Wells b.1699 in Amesbury, Ebenezer Wells, John Wells, John Wells Jr, Lyman Wells b.in N.H., Louis Wells b.1868 in N.H., and then Ruth Wells b.1913 in N.J. I have looked thru several different data bases on Rootsweb, by other researchers, and I've seen the info on the website of the Welles Family Assoc., and it seems there were 2 Thomas Welles who arrived in Massachusetts in 1635 - the Deacon who settled in Ipswich, and the one who went on to be Governor of the Connecticut Colony. I just wanted to add what I knew - hope it may be somewhat helpful to any other researchers of this particular Wells line. Gail :) Notify Administrator about this message?
