Welf and its variants
Posted by: David Wulfman (ID *****4372) Date: August 22, 2005 at 15:46:42

Besides being the source of the name Guelph, Welf is a variant of Wulf (female of form Wulf is Wuelf) and dates back to 4th Century and the Bishop Wulfila (little wolf). If anyone is interested I have a 15 page summary of the usage and variants. I have not found any phone listing for a Welf family in N. America. Have I missed someone ? Interestingly the name Wulf appears in the genealogy of my Scot ancestors, Swinton and the two sons of Prince Chales, Duke of Windsor are 22 descendents of these same Wulf related Englanders (Source B. Peerage).
Cheers, Dave S Wulfman
