William Weldy marr Accomack Co VA on Mar 15 1789 to Rhoda Joynes (Jones).
In the Accomack Co Va will of Edward Joynes dated Jun 3 1787 proved Jun 26 1787 he leaves acreage to his dau Rhodah Joynes.
note: she married William Weldy nearly two years later.
The problem is that they could not properly spell in those days. The family name in Accomack Co VA has been recorded as follows: Wheldon, Whelton, Whelden, Wheelton, Whealton and Weldy.
Accomack Co VA is part of a peninsula in the most eastern part of the state bordering the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Chesapeake Bay on the west side. The peninsula is comprised of part of three states, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. Today it is called the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia, also the Delmarva Peninsula. There were many very early boundary disputes between DE and PA so if your search leads you to DE without success, be sure to check the names in PA as a safeguard, also with county of Somerset Co MD, later also Worcester Co MD, Wicomico Co. MD. Two Virginia counties are Accomack which shares a boundary with Worcester Co MD, and Northampton Co VA, the southern half of the Virginia portion, closer in proximity to Norfolk and Virginia Beach (old Princess Anne Co VA).
I believe the Wm Weldy who marr Rhoda Joynes/Jones in Accomack Co VA on Mar 16 1789 had a son named William, as shown below:

I have found earlier Whelton, Wheldon families in Connecticut but our VA story says they originated in England. Many in VA were seamen, watermen, ship's captains, mariners and others farmed the land.
The Weldy family certainly appears to have had itchy feet. Some migrations I have found to date include:
Virginia - Mississippi
Mississippi - Georgia
Missouri - Kansas
Ohio - Iowa
Indiana - Wisconsin & to Michigan
Wisconsin - Minnesota
Missouri to Dakota Territory
Virginia - Maryland - Virginia
mainland Virginia - North Carolina
Alabama - Arkansas
Ohio to Washington State
Maryland to Balto MD
New Mexico to Arizona
Texas to New Mexico
Texas to California
Indiana to California

Studying migration patterns are very important in locating them since this early time was when land was becoming scarcer and taxes becoming higher. Free land was made available in exchange for Rev. War service and other war service. Land in KY and OH awarded thus many migrated to those areas to settle. Land lottery in GA drew many to migrate there. If you were not an eldest son inheriting family land, you might choose to go elsewhere to fulfill your destiny.
My family Whelton/Whelton/Wheldon/Whelden/Weldy/Wheelton/ Whealton line has been on the Eastern Shore of Va in Accomack Co VA, including Chincoteague Island & Wattsville, since the latter half of the 1600s. I share the Jones family ancestry as well.
There are other Weldy family lines in NY, NJ and Reading PA areas. Believe the NY and NJ may have originated in CT. Possible the PA Weldy family could be from either VA/MD/DE or NJ lines. But it appears the old VA tribe was the group with the itchy feet.
