My GG Grandfather is Thomas Smith Weldon.John Gorvin Weldon is my Great Grandfather.John G. and Jennie Martin had four children: Urla, Lillian and Stanley Gorvin.Stanley is my grandfather.A fourth daughter Muriel Kathleen died at age 7.John G, Jennie, Stan and Lillian are buried at Hamilton Cemetary in the same plot. Urla is at White Brick.
Thomas Smith was the son of Thomas Weldon (from County Meath) and Sarah Pettit Lafey. The elder Thomas landed in Canada probably in the early 1830's. I have a copy of a document dated December 2, 1834 for the purchase of land in Burford outside of Brantford, Ontario. The last document I have is dated 1841.Thomas and Sarah had two sons: John (William?) and Thomas Smith, both are buried at White brick in Ancaster.
According to my grandfather the elder Thomas died at an early age from a horse fall. That would explain only two male Weldons showing up in Hamilton-Wentworth area in the 1871 census.I don't know what happened to Sarah or where the elder Thomas is buried.
Thomas Smith married Eve Book in 1857.According to a family tree on Ancestry.comthey had four children: Albert, George, Thomas and Annie.Thomas may be buried at White Chapel (1867 -1952). They also had two children that died in infancy: Adam (d. 1862)and Sarah J.(d. 1860) whose markers are at Book Family Cemetary.Eve died at 33 in 1870 according to the 1871 census and is likely buried at Book although the stones are faded.
Thomas Smith then married Fanny Gorvin, likely in 1871 as their first child Fanny Elizabth was born in 1872 - d 1874. Other children included John G. (1874-1940), James Edward (1875-75), Frederick William (1876-?), Florence Mary (Sovereign)1878-1954, Josephine 1883 and maybe a Joseph?I have the baptism record for Fredrick William and Florence Mary.
Robert Armstrong appears in a disposition of a Fanney Jeffery Trust dated 1969 that includes Stan, Urla, Lillian, Minnie Weldon, Lena Harper, Florence Mary Sovereign Trust and Madeline Weldon in Trust.I don't know how Minnie, Madeline and Lena fit in yet.
