My guess is George Welder's family name was Welter, not Weller.

I understand that many people with the name Welter came from Luxembourg not Germany. When they came to the United States they found people here had never heard of Luxembourg. So they just said they came from Germany.

I've noticed many people with the name Welter changed it to Welder after they lived in the United States for a while. Try looking for "George Welter".

Hope this helps. Good luck with your research.
