Beth,

Since you have his birth name, birth date and you think he was born in Chicago, I suggest you send for his original birth certificate. In 1912 adopted parents often didnít have a birth certificate re-issued in the adopted parents name. After an adoption, they would have the adoption papers and the child would then start using his adopted parents surname.

I know this because one of my ancestors born in 1915 was adopted in Ohio in 1918. Anyway I also had my ancestorís birth name and date of birth. I sent for the adopted ancestors 1915 birth certificate and found out she was born out of wedlock. Her birth motherís name was Agnes Mulcare, her birth fatherís name was Charles Welder. Small world.
