WELBY from England to Wisconsin to California
I'm looking for WELBY cousins and more information about my Welby family. The Welbys immigrated to the United States about 1848 and settled in Omro, Wisconsin and later in Oshkosh. As far as I can see all the brothers (except Frank) worked as butchers. The family was:
John W. Welby (b. 1812 in England, occupation Butcher)
Caroline Sarah Welby (b. 1815 in England)
Caroline Margaret Welby (b. 1836 in England)(married Samuel Payton in Wisconsin 1854)
John Thomas Welby (b. 1838 in England) (my gggrandfather)
Charles William Welby (b. 1840 in England)
Nathan Budge Welby (b. 1845 in England) (Budge was his mother's maiden name.)
George Benjamin Welby (b. 1847 in England)
There was another son born in Wisconsin perhaps with a different mother (Anna?) his name was Frank WELBY.
The three oldest brothers (John, Charles and Nathan) went to California about 1860 and were naturalized in 1864 in San Francisco. Charles Welby moved his family out to Turlock and eventually to Oregon.
So are any of you Welby cousins out there? I would love to hear from you. I know more but probably not as much as you were hoping. I'm hoping you know more too!
Thanks for your time,
Peggy Wilson
