OH MY Goodness!!!James Harvey Welborn was my Great Grandfather!!!I heard my Grandmother speak of her father-in-law often.I have a picture of him and his wife Ida Mae Dugger Welborn. My father is Melvin Lee Welborn born 1926(ish).There is way too much to communicate with you now....it is very late here.I am absolutely SHAKING with joy that we have connected.
I will briefly tell you what I do know for now:James Harvey and Ida Mae Dugger were married inthe Solsbery area, Owen County (Indiana)I think as I am writing this from memory and my records are in an upstaird closet where my young children are asleep.
Anyway to continue, they went to Illinois and lived on a hillside farm outside of Dallas City Illinois. The farm was named Loafer's Glory. The Dugger family was also living in the area andone of them was a Nazarene Preacher. My grandfather always called him the "Chicken Eating Preacher" because his mother had her brother (the Preacher) and his family: daughters Faith, Hope and ??? over for Sunday dinner. She evidently cooked ONE chicken for everyone and my grandfather resented the fact that the preacher got most of the chicken and there was never enough left for him!My grandfather was born Robert Franklin (Franklin I think because that is the County in Indiana where they were from???) Grandfather went by Frank and more often Shorty.
James Harvey went by Harve for a number of years.Yes he had a brother who lived in Missouri. As a young child I remember visiting his house and I am sure we still have a picture of he and his wife. They had no natural children that I can recall, but did raise a girl as their daughter.
My grandfather was the last of his generation to die.He died in 1980.
If you are looking for James Harvey's death certificate, I believe it will be found in the Carthage Illinois death reacords....I just can't remember some details as I did most of this research about 15 years ago.
James' father was Jessie W Welborn and I belileve Sarah E. Welborn..... I have been having difficulty proving this as the records are difficult in sourthern Indiana.I have BEEN to Solsbury in an attempt to find out things, but it is near county lines....I have just lost them.
Although tonight I did find someone on this sitelooking for Jesse W and Sarah E in Putnam County....There is a Putnam county in Indiana.I plan to follow up on all of this. Please, please, reply that you have received this message as I am THRILLED to make your connection.
Which of James Harvey and Ida Mae's children are you related to?In my records I have a list of all of them and my grandfather could still remember all of his uncles and aunts when I started the research.
