Weiss (H. G. & Martha) family farm postcards. Any ideas?
Hello,
I bought a lot of postcards recently. Two of the cards are of the 'real photo' type-and very interesting. This would date the postcards to the early 1900s.They both have on the front of them the words "H. G. Weiss", so they are obviously from the Weiss family. One postcard is of a rather large white (somewhat Victorian in style) farm house, with a barn, and a sort of windmill in between. On the back of this card is a note, written in pencil, by a woman named "Martha", to someone named "Bertha".Martha speaks of life on the farm "This is a picture of our little home..I will also send you some of the harvest pictures that were taken on our farm you can see our place in the background. We haven't thrashed our wheat yet but the oats were thrashed..." (etc.) So, from the writing, I'm guessing the author was Martha Weiss.Possibly married to H.G. Weiss?Unfortunately, there is no postmark (the cards must have been mailed in an envelope to receiver (Bertha)) so I have no idea of the location of this Weiss farm/family. The second postcard is a photo of a man on a horse-run "ACME" brand farm machine. There are 4 horses driving this machine, so a rather large farm, I would think... The front of it says,"H. G. Weiss Binding Oats July 18 '12". Any info greatly appreciated to solve this mystery.
