Can anyone make a connection to the following WEISS?
Charles Nicholas WEISS was born about 1810 in ?Prussia? where he was a Captain in the Army. He came to England and joined the British Army on the 22 Oct. 1840 as a Private (Band Flutist) in the Regiment #1520, 17th Foot, 1st Battalion. He was promoted to Sergeant the following day. His regiment was then posted to India, where he arrived 30 Nov. 1840.
WEISS died suddenly on 14 June 1845 in India. His wife Benigna Catherine (Von) HOLST died shortly after in 1845.
Together, they left six young orphans. The girls were sent back to England, the boys were looked after in a Military School in India. The names of the orphans are:
1. Adelaide Catharine G. WEISS b. 9 Sept. 1829 London, Engl.
2. Benigna WEISS b. abt. 1831
3. Caroline WEISS b. abt. 1833
4. unknown WEISS b. abt. 1834
5. Egmont WEISS b. abt. 1835
6. Frederick Adam WEISS b. 6 Feb. 1839 Manchester, England.
We only know of Frederick Adam WEISS who became a school teacher in Scotland and then immigrated to Australia in 1863, where his descendants thrive today.
We are looking for the other orphans and their descendants.
