Weisel-California-'last chance gold mine

I'm looking for clues to my great grand-father Christian Weisel who immigrated from Germany to California about 1858. His wife came from Helgoland. He might of been involved in 'The Last Chance Gold Mine', or else his son was. His son's name was Theodore Jasper Weisel. I can find him in the 1890 census living with Theodore but he's gone by the 1900 census. Any info would be of help. Thanks
