Batavia, Ill., children committed, 1901
St. Charles (Illinois) Chronicle, Jan. 17, 1902:
Charles, Arthur, Hazel and Pearl Werich of Batavia were committed as dependent children this week by Judge Southworth. Their father is an inmate of the Elgin asylum, and their mother, although a hard working woman, was unequal to the task of providing for their wants. The two youngest were taken in charge by the Cook county juvenile court, and the other were sent to Glenwood. The scene at the breaking up of the family was very touching.
