If your brother is a Weir still, send him a link to familytreedna.com or org, and perhaps offer to help him with the cost.
I paid for my father's DNA test which gives both his mother's and father's dna. A fatherdoes not pass on his mother's dna to descendants. Only his father's dna gets passed to his male children from the beginning of his line. The daughter inherits the father's dna but it does not get passed to her children or so I believe. She inherits her mother's DNA and passes that to her daughter's, all the way back to EVE with some mutations of course.
Some of the males stayed in Scotland or went to England or Ireland. There is a direct link to a male Weir with family in Northern England still.
There are thousands of Weirs in Scotland and USA and Canada.
There are almost 7 Billion people living in the World that we know about. They contain 3% NeanderthalDNA.
PS my Dad was a Gold miner for 4 years in Quebec, Canada, until too many accidents made my Mom force him to stop.
