Robert Wyres/ca1810-1888/Augusta/VA/TX
I am trying to locate the family of Robert Wyres who was born in Virginia in 1805/1810. Robert's parents were both born in Virginia. He left Virginia and eventually arrived in San Augustine in the Mexican state of Texas in 1830.
According to the biography of his daughter, Sophia Wyers [sic] Bryan, he was born in Augusta County and lived in Alabama before going to Texas. Her biography also says that his family started the community of Weyers Cave (the cave itself was discovered by a Bernard Weyer in 1804) and were among the founders of Wesleyan Female Institute in Staunton, which her daughter was sent back east to attend.
The only men in the 1810 Virginia census with a name phonetically similar to Wyres that have young boys in their households were John Wire of Augusta and John Weir of Rockbridge.
Does anyone know know of any Weir or Weyer men or families who moved from Virginia to Alabama and/or the San Augustine area of Texas?
