Hi Denny:
I saw your message on the Geneaological Forum and was rather eager to answer you.I don't know if you are a Weinmann, or just simply looking for this family, but if you are, then there is a very strong possibility that you and I are related going back 4 or 5 generations. My great-great-grandfather was from Brettenfeld Germany, which is not very far from Groningen, maybe 15 miles at most. His name was Leonhard Vogt and was a farmer in Brettenfeld, where his family was from. However, about two years ago I discovered that he was an illegitimate child of a Maria Barbara Vogt (my ggg-grandmother).I came across some documents in Germany which indicate that his father was a Johann Georg Leonhard Weinmann who wasfrom Amligshagen which is even closer to Groningen (maybe 10 miles). He appears to have been born in 1815 and died in Brettheim around 1871 and was buried there.I suspect, although I don't have the documentation that your George Weinmann and my Georg Weinmann were related. There is even a possibility that yours was a legitimate son of my ancestor. If yours was born in 1839, that would have fit into a possiblity of being mine's son, or perhaps nephew or cousin.Amligshagen, Brettheim, Groningen and all these towns are very close together (I've personally visited this area) and there is no doubt that there is a relationship, just not sure how exactly at this point.
I would love to hear from you and compare notes, if this intrigues you at all.You may write me at this address or at:[email protected].
