Weingartners in western PA

A fairly large group of Weingartners is centered around New Castle and Ellwood City, PA. Patriarch was George Weingartner who served in the Civil War; he was married to Martha. Two sons from the marriage: George Weingartner, a lawyer who served as a state senator in PA in the late 1920s-early 1930s, and my grandfather, Ambrose Russell Weingartner, a carpenter who built many of the houses on the east side of New Castle. Until WWII, the family was in touch with relatives near Essen, Germany. Does anyone know of these connections?
