I believe we may be related. My father Robert Raymond Weigold, Jr, was born to Robert Raymond, Sr and Gladys. The story I got was this:

RR Sr had an older brother (Elmer?) who was "given" the family farm despite the fact that he didn't really want it and Robert had worked hard for years to "earn" his father's farm. I vaguely remember that Elmer (if that was his name) had a son name George who took over the family farm - but the part about George might be wrong.

Robert Sr was so upset by having the farm given to his older brother "just" because he was the older brother, that Robert never spoke to his family again - and Robert's family grew up never knowing their aunts/unlces/cousins, etc. Robert went on to buy a dairy farm in Winsted, Conn with his wife Gladys. Robert Sr raised 4 kids there: Dorothy (from Gladys' first marriage) and Fran, Evelyn, and Robert Jr. Robert Sr sold off his farm in the early 1960's to another family entirely. Robert Sr died in 1968. Robert Jr had 3 sons: Greg, Bruce, and Scott. Since Robert Jr was the only son of Robert Sr, we three carry on the name from Robert Sr's side of the family.

Robert Jr now lives in Tennesee.
His son Greg lives in S. Carolina, Bruce is in Az, and I'm in sunny Ca.
Robert Sr's descendents who still live in Connecticut are all from his daughters, so no living "Weigolds" in Conn. are direct descendents of Robert. Any Weigolds there are from Robert's siblings' families.
