A biography of John Weightman, pioneer stageman, and veteran liveryman of Flathead country of Montana, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 795.
John was born, 24 May 1855, to English parents, William S. and Ann (Salmon) Weightman. His parents moved to Boston and lived there until 1865. John was educated in public schools at Bunker Hill. In 1865, the family moved to Buena Vista farm, McHenry County, IL. In 1877, John came to the Beaverhead Valley of Montana, locating where Dillon now stands. In 1890, he moved to Demersville where he was in the livery business. For ten years he drove a stage between Ravalli and Flathead Lake, at a point now known as Polson. When the town of Demersville was moved to Kalispell, John went along and set up and operated the first livery in Kalispell.
At Dillon, MT, John married Miss Katie Barnard, a native of Box Elder County, UT. They had three children: Mabel (Mrs. W.W. Bond, New York); Ida Mae (Mrs. F.W. Worden, Ravalli, MT); Nina (Mrs. M.J. Salman, Ravalli). The girls were all educated in Kalispell.
