Susan, I know of a Rev. Fr. Joseph Weigand, born in Baden, Germany, June 8, 1866, the son of Felix and Genevieve Schmidt Weigand. He received his education at St. Vincente College, PA, and at St. Marys Seminary, Baltimore, MD. Ordained by Cardinal Gibbons in 1889. Starting in 1904 he was in charge of the Holy Name Church at Steubensville, OH. This information was included in a study my Aunt did in 1985, and includes some other interesting information. She mentioned a Cornelius Weigand who appears in a list dated September 1, 1736, at the Philadelphia courthouse. She also mentions Conrad Weigand, German historical painter (1842-1897); Sebastian Weigand, German painter (1760-1824); and Wilhelm Weigand, German philologist (1803-1881).

My line actually begins with John Weigand (1810 to 1865) who was born in Hesse Darmstadt, Germany and came through New York to settle around Mt. Sterling, IL. (Married to Elizabeth Leison (1816-1897). They were married in Baltimore, MD.

Jacob J. Weigand (1841 to 1911), son of John, was my great-grandfather. His son, James Joseph, Sr.(1875 to 1942), my grandfather, and my father was James Joseph, Jr.(1913 to 2000).

Jacob had a brother Charles who lived in Burlington, KS (no dates); son Harvey L. (1898 to 1940).

Hope this is helpful - let me know what you find out.
