Helene, I just got a follow up message from Paul that I wanted to pass on right away as it answers some of our questions to each other!
"Sorry, I know of no way to reach Barker except the address I gave you in my
first message.I paid $20 (including postage) for the CD just under a year ago,
and it is the best genealogical investment I've ever made: full of primary
material with full citations, and his judgments always seem spot on.
1.Barker suggests that the Scheid last name is from a prior marriage, but
offers no evidence. The first three kids are from the first marriage (to
Elisabeth Overbach), the last two from the marriage to Elisabeth Dietz.
2.Barker says that Maria and Elisaberth are both daughters of Peter Overbach
and Elisabeth Stein. The "Eva" seems to come from Elisabeth's son Peter's
baptism, which lists as sponsors grandparents "Peter Overbagh & Eva"That's the
only reference to Eva I can find in Barker, so it seems most likely that
Elisabeth was also known as Eva.
3 - 6.Barker lists a Hans Weidman, but indicates no relationship to Jacob.
Here is his thinking on Jacob's background:
JACOB WEIDMAN - probably [WB] the Hans Jacob bp Steinmaur, Switzerland
28 Oct 1720 (son of Felix Weidman & Anna Huber [IGI]);...We strongly
suspect this man was the Hans Jacob Weidman, born Switzerland 22 Oct
1720, son of Felix, who was unmarried when he emigrated from Bachs,
Switzerland to America ca 1738-43 [Faust's "Lists of Swiss Emigrants
in the Eighteenth Century to the American Colonies", pg 34].
