Dear Ned,
My name is Trevor Weichmann, I have just read your request on the net for information on the Weichmann family from Hannover, Germany. My great grandfather, Heinrich Weichammn was a native of Hannover Germany. In 1849 Heinrich came to Beechworth Australia where during the gold rush period he took over the Freemasons Arms Hotel. He was also a clever musician and in 1860 was appointed the conductor of the orchestra of the Empress Alexander Theatre at St.Petersburgh Russia. He then lost his eyesight and the family returned to Germany where he died in 1877. In 1880 his wife took the family (including my grandfather) to New York where her sister was living, the family then returned to Australia in 1881. My grandfather was considered to be an Australian German Pioneer and was secretary of the German club for 25 years. I would be keen to hear more from you.
