I cannot confirm the Wegener name you have mentioned. However, it certainly is possible that your family came from Prussia.
I originally posted my message simply as a pointer to Wegener researchers who may not have thought to check the old West Prussia records.
My Wegener/Wegner/Wagner family came from the area around Kamin/Camin, Kreis Flatow, West Prussia, SW of Danzig (now Gdansk.) The town is now called Kamien Krajenskie, Bydgoszcz, Poland, although I think Bydgoszcz may have recently undergone some boundary changes.
There were MANY Wegeners in the area going back at least to the late 1700s. The Family History Library has film on most (but not all) of the B,M,D records from the area, as well as other useful info on land, census, etc. If a search of the Kamin area is unsuccessful, cast your net a little wider to look at other communities in the area.
