I am a descendant of John C. Weeter (1832-1889) and Ann Jane Dehart (1833-1893) of Clarion Co., PA through their daughter Lavina Jane Weeter Sedwick. Her grandson left a record that JC's middle name was Crispen--information he would have received orally from his grandmother, Lavina, who raised him. We have tried for years to fit this JC into the Peter Weeter family and, while we were sure we belonged, weren't entirely sure where. I also searched for years among the local Crispen family for some connection to no avail.
Finally, it has come to light that Peter's eldest son, Jacob Weeter (who was a prime suspect to be JC's father) was married to Jane Christman [Crissman](via the will of her father, Frederick Christman of Armstrong Co.). Obviously the oral similarity, especially in the mouth of a 90ish year old woman, between Crispen and Crissman is pretty close.
If the shoe fits, as they say, buy the matching handbag!
Now, it seems rather clear that the line is
Peter Weeter and Catherine Ober
Jacob Weeter and Jane Christman (Crissman)
John Crissman Weeter and Ann Jane Dehart
Lavina Jane Weeter and William George Sedwick
So, several mysteries solved!
If anyone has any comments or thoughts, please let me know.
