Looking for any info on Olsimus High Kendrick (b.1827 Mississippi, d. 2-25-1877, TX) and his predecessors. His father had the same name, though the High could actually be Hiram. Taught school in Freestone County TX, married Caroline Francis Weatherbee, a Bolling descendent. Was raised in Mississippi with a sister Mollie by an uncle. Mother's name was Barton. Two older grown sisters (Sue and ?) married Gattis brothers, W.A. and L.B. somewhere around Tallahatchie. He's my ggg-grandfather. That's the whole story as I know it.
If this strikes any bells, please let me know. Thanks-

Yes I went to LDS and there was a John Kendrick b. 1805/1810 in Florence, Alabama. Father Olysimus Kendrick, Mother Elizabeth Weems and spouse Eliza Ann Hinds. May not help, but...
(end of Kendrick Forum)
Does anyone have any further information on this ELIZABETH WEEMS? I have received information that ELIZABETH was a BARTON, but I believe this is a previous marriage as there is a son, WILLIAM K. BARTON. (I did not verify this information)
I show OLSIMUS, Sr. sister, NANCY married to a WILLIAM WEEMS with a son, CHARLES.
Sources:
Historical Southern Families, Vol. I, Kendrick of Gloucester and North Carolina, 53, Mentions Nancy possible widow of William Weems and mother of Charles Weems.
I recently received info from Greene Co., TN Court Records which included the following information:
"JOHN WEEMS appointed guardian for NANCY BLACKWOOD and MARTHA BLACKWOOD orphans of JOHN BLACKWOOD decd and enters into bond with WILLIAM GAILBREATH & JOHN WM BOWERS his Securities in the sum of 200 (looks like an S) for the
faithful discharge of his guardianship."
Source: Greene County, TN Court Records, County Court Minutes, Book 1(1783 - 1796), pgs 273 - 274.
JOHN WEEMS was ordered by the court to sell JOHN BLACKWOOD'S perishable estate in 1794, Greene Co. Tennessee.
..."I Nominate Constitute and Appoint my well beloved wife Ann and wellbeloved friend JONES KINDRICK my xecritors......" part of JOHN BLACKWOOD'S Will.
Will witnessed by JONES KINDRICK and JOHN YOUNG. This Will was written on June 14, 1789 and was entered into Probate on August 15, 1789, Greene Co.,TN.
I have been working on locating the maiden name of JOHN BLACKWOOD'S wife, ANN for some time now. I assume that there is a family connection between John Weems and the Blackwoods.
JOHN WEEMS'S wife, KITTY, also is missing a maiden name. It is possible that they are sisters, or related in some way.
JONES KENDRICK (abt 1750, Grandville Co., NC -- abt 1817, Maury Co., TN) married a MARGARET U or J. (I don't know if the U/J is the first letter of her maiden name, or her middle name). They had at least six children, one female child, name not given, married a JOSHUA ORR -- most likely in TN. I have no other information on him.
Another child of JONES & MARGARET KENDRICK, NANCY, married a WILLIAM WEEMS. He died in Maury Co., TN between 1815 & 1820. They had at least one son, CHARLES. No other information is known.
Another daughter, SARAH, married a JOHN ELLIOTT. No other information.
Sources:
Historical Southern Families, Vol. I, Kendrick of Gloucester and North Carolina, 53, Unknown last name. Does, however, show deed info with the
name of Margaret J. Kendrick and Jones Kendrick (sometimes spelled Hendrick).
July Court, 1820, Olsemus Kendrick of the State of Alabama, admr. of Jones Kendrick, decd., and Charles Weems, admr. of William Weems, decd., 56
acres to James Warden (Book 1-L, p. 548)......
Family History: Southern Genealogies #1 1600s - 1800s
Historical Southern Families, Vol. I, Kendrick of Gloucester and North
Carolina, pg 37
JONES KENDRICK is the father of OLSIMUS KENDRICK, Sr.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
