My great grandmother is Margaret Wemyss of Ceres, Fife, Scotland. I'm not sure when she was born, but I'm assuming it was the late 1800's due to the age of my grandfather (Alexander Beaton). She married James Beaton and had two children with him- Alexander James Beaton (1910-1995) and Margaret Beaton. Alexander ended up moving to the U.S., getting married and had 3 children. Several years later, he divorced his wife and moved back to Scotland with his sister Margaret where he died.
My aunt tells a story that Margaret Wemyss's husband James Beaton was a seacaptain. He would go away on long voyages for periods of time. Apparently, during his travels he married another woman and had children. When Margaret found out about this, they separated.
My aunt is digging up more information for me on the Beaton/Wemyss side of the family. I'll let you know if I end up getting any more detail on Margaret.
It's a bit of a stretch to think that we're talking about exactly the same person. The age that you list as Margaret's birthdate (1873) would have made her 37 years old when she had my grandfather. Not an impossibility, but not so likely. However, I'm hoping that the Margaret I'm related to is somehow related to the Margaret that you're inquiring about...and that hopefully in linking the two, both of us can find out more information about the Wemyss clan.
Thanks!
