Will of Thomas Weems, Marion Co., IL
I have seen some requests about the will of Thomas WEEMS.He was my great-great-great-great-great-(was that 5?
Thomas WEEMS, born abt 1775 in Orange Co, NC; died 7 Sep 1829, son of John A. WEEMS (Sr.) and Kitty Sarah (CASTLEBERRY) Weems. He married on 12 Oct 1795 in Green County, TN Hannah Ann (GALBRAITH) Weems, born abt 1780 in Orange Co., NC.
I (Terry) am connected to him through the following list, each persons father follows:
Terry Lee WEEMS, b 10/7/1959
Charles Lee WEEMS, b 6/17/1936
Sherman Leslie (Lester?) WEEMS, b 6/30/1905
James Jarvis WEEMS, b 11/19/1880
Thomas Franklin WEEMS, b 5/18/1855
James Alston WEEMS, b 2/16/1828
John WEEMS, b abt 1797
Thomas WEEMS, b abt 1775
The information I have on the will of Thomas Weems seems sketchy, but what I have reads as follows:
"In the name of God Amen, I Thomas Weems.....bequeath unto Ann, my wife, one cow and calf and bed and covering, one pot and pail as long as she lives or lives single, and so she shall have the farm for maintaining the children, to wit Ann my wife is to have the increase of the cow and calf for her lifetime or widowhood, also to wit John Weems, my son, is to have half of the fifty acres of land lying in the state of Tennessee in Sumner County on Long Creek and also that he the said John Weems pays to Thomas Weems one hundred and twenty-five dollars in horseflesh for the other fifty acres above mentioned to be paid in two years, also that my son Thomas L. Weems shall have my roan mare, new saddle and bridle and that the said Thomas Weems shall raise all the colts he can and give all the rest a colt except John Weems my son and Elizabeth Helms if the mare lives to have them. Catherine my daughter Weems and Nancy my daughter Weems.
I have given my daughter Elizabeth Helms one cow and calf and filly and bed for her little daughter Caroline. Sally my daughter Weems, Polly my daughter Weems, also my daughter Rosa Weems, and also my son James and also my daughter Jane, and also my daughter Caroline. Also when it is thought proper by the executors to make a division when the rest of the children gets as much property as Elizabeth helms, then the rest of the property equally divided between her Elizabeth Helms and the rest of the children except John Weems, also when my money is collected in West Tennessee I want all the land entered that it will buy and equally divided between Thomas Weems my son and James Weems before mentioned.
And also I do appoint Robert Galbreath and Joseph Helms to be executors of my estate this 4th day of January A.D. 1829."
Hope this helps!I have lots of information on the Weems lines mentioned above - I would be glad to share it!Send me an e-mail at [email protected]!
