Laura,

Everything can be ordered on line from the provider of your choice. Once you/brother has taken the cheek swabs you don't have to do any more tests unless you want to use a different provider, Family Tree or Ancestry. You can always upgrade at later time meaning that you can have the provider test for more markers at an add'l cost.

Didn't follow the problem with the DNA with LDS. Did your brother submit samples? Anyway, you/brother can order the tests on line with the use of a credit card and they will send him a kit with 3 swabs to rub on cheek inside the mouth. It is painless. He returns the swaps in a provided envelope and about 4-5 weeks he is sent the results. The more markers tested the greater the accuracy and the provider that you use will notify you if you have any close matches with others who have been tested.

Your next move is to order the test, so you can get the ball rolling. The rest is somewhat easy. As I mentioned you can post to YSearch and anyone can access the info. Family Tree will post it for you as well if you choose. Anyone can access this site and you can check it out for yourself. Just search www.ysearch.org and on the cover page click on "Alphabetical..." box at the top of the page and then scroll down for "Weeks" and you will see all of the postings and you can compare yours to theirs.

Most of my research of the Leonard Weeks family has been from Leonard back not forward, but I do have his son Samuel with the same bd as you and married to an Elinor Haines ca. 1695.

There does seem to be a problem here though. Your line goes up to a Harry Edwin Weeks, 22 Sept. 1872 and then goes to a Margaret Edna Weeks and then to Sue Gagnon and then to you and your brother. The Y DNA can only be tested with an unbroken line of male Weeks'. That line is broken after Harry Edwin Weeks. So unless you can locate a male heir of Harry Edwin Weeks you can't make a comparison. Your brother would have to be a Weeks and not a Gannon/Tetreault to show a relationship. If he was tested he would come up in the Gannon/Tetreault DNA, not Weeks. (Who did Margaret Edna Weeks marry? Gannon? Then did Sue Gannon marry a Tetreault or is that your married name. The bottom line is that your brother's last name has to be Weeks)

Let me know if I have misunderstood your lineage here.

As for getting your info on the internet, you just have. Post whatever information you have on Genforum and the interested people will find it.

Walter Weeks
