Francis was probably the son of Francis Weeks and Wilmot Coffin of Devon, England.

He came from England about 1635 and was living in Salem, Ma. ...close to George Weeks of Dorchester, and also friends with John Wickes who started out in Plymouth, Ma.....went to New Hampshire, then came back to an area near Taunton, Ma.....before moving to Rhode Island with Francis. Francis was also listed at times...as... Wickes and Weekes.

In about 1637 Francis was in Rhode Island and was one of 13 persons to subscribe for settlement. In 1640 he was Secretary of the Colony.

John Wickes had his head cut off during the Indian war, Francis removed to Gravesend, New York about 1648. In 1657 he was a Selectman for Hempstead, Long Island.

Due to being Quakers,....who held meetings in the woods....and got caught and fined....they moved to Oyster Bay where he was a freeloader in 1661.

Their children..Samuel; Jan; Joseph ,Elizabeth, Thomas, Ann, James and Daniel.

Found 6 pages of info that is more specific than what I mentioned.....page was from http://www.geocities.com/maggie49_2000/weekshistory.html?20087 Top listing... "WEEKS FAMILY" top left hand corner lists RICHARD WEEKES was born abt.

You might also type in, on the web site...Francis Weeks, Rhode Island.............or Providence, R.I. (or no R.I.); just play around with it.....and Good Luck !!
