I am attempting to locate within the Lockwood family line a Sally/Sarah Ann Lockwood, reported to have been born 11/2/1807 in Fairfield County, CN. Her father's name reported as Edmund Lockwood, "a wealthy agriculturalist" of Fairfield County "who married a Miss Smith." Sally Ann/Sarah Ann was the 2nd or 4 children to Edmund and his wife.
In Fairfield County, CN, Sally Ann married (6/27/1827) Dr. John D. Stokem (b.1/25/1806, d. like Sally Ann a native of the town of Fairfield. John Stokem is the son of E. Lemuel Stokem (Stoakham), born in CN about 1780 died about 1855, likely also of Fairfield County. Lemuel appears to be descended from the Stoakhams originally from Rye, NY.
Sally Ann and John D. Stokem lived their married lives in NY state, mostly in Orange County, first in Cornwall, then the "old town of Monroe."
John's literary education was in his native state of CN, while he attended medical lectures in NYC, in which he was the proprietor of a drugstore for a time. He afterward located at Cornwall for a short time. "He was an eminent physican and engaged in practice . . . until he deceased."
Sally and John had about 8 children of whom the sons were Julian D., Eugene D., Adolphus W., and a second Julian D. (eventually of Scranton, Pa.) from whose my line I am descended. Their daughters were Cordelia A. (m. Thomas Windsor), Frances Amelia (died w/o marrying?), Celesta P. (Charles Rhodes of Newark), Isadore V. (m. James Fullshier of Brooklyn).
So far, I have been unable to place this particular Sally Ann/Sarah Ann Lockwood (b. 1807, Fairfield County, CN), whose mother was a Smith and father was Edmund in any of the Lockwood lineage that I have been able to find.
If you can assist, please share what information you may have by replying to this post.
I am also seeking the parentage and direct ancestors for E. Lemuel Stokem (roughly b.1780, d. 1855) and more about Lemuel and his family. It has been suggested to me that Lemuel married a Rachel Weed. Rachel Weed, may be the daughter of Miles Weed, Jr. of Ct. However, I need greater confirmation of this Weed relationship. Rachel and Lemuel may have lived in Greenwich. I know Lemuel’s grave is in a Fairfield cemetery.
Thank you.
