EXECUTIONS in LAKE COUNTY -- We take the following account of a recent execution from the Lakeport ‘Avalanche’ of the 10th:Friday, June 9th, at 12:30 o’clock, the jury summoned, and visitors and Indians invited, were admitted into the jail court to witness the execution of “Indian Tom,” the murderer of Daniel WEDIG. We also noticed a number of the pioneers present, who were specially invited by the Sheriff, Thomas B. BURGER.

Up to the very moment the Indian was brought from his cell, he contended that the Indians “Francisco” and “Jim” were equally as guilty as himself -- declaring most positively that they assisted in the murder. When taken from the cell to the scaffold, he walked with a firm, steady step, and apparently self-possessed. He was attended to the scaffold by the Sheriff, Revs. COMPTON and INGRAM, and 2 others, when a prayer was offered by Rev. N.H. COMPTON, after which the Indian was told that if he had anything to say to his numerous Indian friends the opportunity would be granted to him. He said he “wished to told them not to steal; not to do anything wrong; to be good and God would forgive them; not to play cards; not to stole anything; not to do wrong and God would save them; God make Indian and white men all the same. I am going to die, and go the good land, and if you do anything wrong and feel sorry you will go there too when you die. That’s all.”
The rope was then adjusted, and at precisely 1 o’clock the trap was sprung, and the body of the murderer was hanging, his feet at least 18 inches from the floor.
