Richard Harwood Wedge was my Great-grandfather. He was shipwrecked off the coast of SOUTH africa while a Midshipman on H.M.S. Brilliant. He was invalided out of the Navy and took up the role of buider in S.A. While there he married Sarah Jane Gibbons on 14 June 1852. They left Cape Town on 27 September 1864 on board "Alfred" bound for the Waikato, New Zealand. He died on November 3rd, 1895 at his residence in Kaiwaka and was interred in the cemetery at the Anglican Church 'St. Michaels' at Hakaru on Tuesday 4th November.
