California's death records are available online through Rootsweb at http://userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi

I do not exactly know where Andrew Hill Weddle connects into the Kentucky Weddles. Once you have his father's name, I may be able to be more specific on your branch of the Weddles. I have only tracked the branch that landed in Pulaski Co., KY. Most Weddle researchers trace their origins to George Adam Weddle (Wedel), who came to America on the "Mortonhouse" from Rotterdam to Philadelphia in Aug 1729; took the oath of allegiance 19 Aug 1729; lived in Lancaster PA and Hagerstown MD 1753; eventually moved to western Pennsylvania. George's son John went to Tennessee, George Jr. went to Kentucky, I don't know about the others.

Since Andrew Hill Weddle hales from KY, there is a good chance he is a descendant of George Jr., but we won't know that until you acquire the death certificate or SS application. The death certificate can be purchased from the California Office of Vital Records (information available at http://vitalrec.com/ca.html ). The social security application must be requested from the Social Security administration.

To do this, go to http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/ssdi/main.htm , input the surname Weddle, first name Andrew and the ss number from the previous message. The results page will include a link that says "request information" leading to another link that says "generate letter". Click "generate letter", print out the results and sent to the Social Security Administration. They are rather slow, but the form was filled out by your grandfather himself, so it's the best quality of information you can get.

A great many of the KY Weddles can be found in my online database at http://www.chronography.com/rainwater/index.html.
