I believe Charles Weddell who originated near Union County, SD or Sioux City, IA, was my great, great grandfather on my father's side and where we all get the name. There is a lot of us here on the Yankton Reservation in South Dakota. He is mentioned here to have seven sons with a German wife.
We were told that prior to marrying this German woman, Katr, he was married to a full blood Yankton woman who was named Comes From the Earth Woman and later given the name of Sally or Sara Jones. Together they had one son, James Weddell. James was a "half-breed" and when Charles married this German woman, she did not want to care for a "half-breed" and James was sent to live with the Hudarites. When he came of age, he went looking for his mother and found her and her people. He lived the rest of his life with the Yankton Sioux Reservation. He married a woman by the name of Eva Pants and they had children, who included by own grandfather, Benjamin, born in 1915 and died in 1999. I would like to know if this is the same Charles Weddell as mine.
