I am puzzled about something that I hope one of you can help me with. My ggggrandmother was Elizabeth Mariah Weddle. She is thought to have been the daughter of James R. Weddle who was born about 1793 in Hawkins county TN, the son of Amos Weddle and Elizabeth Stinson, and Elizabeth Mundy.
My ggggrandmother married my ggggrandfather, William Robert Matlock, on July 18, 1850 in Jackson county Indiana. James R. Weddle is thought to have been the minister who performed their wedding ceremony. However, and this is what puzzles me, on the transcription of their marriage record, her name is shown as Betsy Weddel, not Weddle. Also the minister signed his name as James A. Wedel (only one d), M.G., not James R. Weddle.
Could you help me with this? Is it possible that she might have been a Weddel after all and not the daughter of James R. Weddle? If so, who could her parents have been? Also what about the minister? I would appreciate whatever information you can give me about this.
Thank you,
Carlyon Sue McKinney
