Martin Weatherford was born circa1728 in Lunenburg Co., Va. and died 1805 in the Bahamas. Circa 1747 he married "Mary Halfbreed', probably in Lunenburg Co. Altho she was part Indian, she wasnot Creek, but a member on a Virginia Indian tribe. Therefore, their children, including your James, had no Creek blood. Martin moved his family to Augusta (Richmond Co.), Ga. circa 1757. Mary died circa 1760 and Martin married Isabella Archer circa 1773 inn Ga. Apparently, any of Martin's descendents who were Creek Indians, came from his son Charle's son, William (Red Eagle), etc. For your info, the first Creek census was in 1832.

Those Creek descendents hoping to get Creek benefits as a result of the Dawes Rolls, possibly ran into some requirements that they did not meet, even if they had Creek blood. For example, my gggggrandfather was a full blooded Cherokee on the 1835 Cherokee census. His daughter "married" my ancestor, John Eddings. When the Dawes census came out my relatives submitted over 200 Indian Claims, trying to get some Cherokee benefits. They were all rejected because over the years they never signed on a Cherokee census as Cherokees. They were on the US census'. The Us Govt ruled they had left the tribe and not entitled to any benefits. Maybe your family has the same problems. Bob Eddings
