I'm a direct descendant of another of Richard and Henrietta's children, William Sandry Wearn. Family lore has it that he didn't fight in the Civil War because he had a state contract--or something--to remain in Charlotte and manufacture wagons. Anyone else heard of this?

More colorful history: my great grandfather, Clarence George Wearn, son of Wm S. and Catherine Moore Wearn, died in 1922 from complications associated with gangrene of the foot. He dropped a heavy bank ledger on himself and never healed.

I live in Charlotte and regularly see the graves of Richard/Henrietta, William/Catherine, and Clarence/Nettie on my Sunday long jogs.
