Benjamin Weare is my Gt.Gt.Gt.Grandfather. born in 1789, and died in 1855, aged 66. His wife was Elizabeth, they were married in 1812, and lived at the corner of Host St & Christmas Steps (now well demolished). Ben Weare was a Tinsmith, grocer, bell hanger, corn & flour dealer. One of his sons was George Reuben Weare RHS,saved 5 people from drowning. He had 2 sons (and daughters) Clarence Weare and George R.Weare Jnr - this man spent most of his life at sea with the Royal Navy, in fact all his life. Starting with the RNAV @ HMS Daedalus, 28 guns, at Bristol. In 1897 he joined Nelson's old Victory (then a training vessel) in Portsmouth harbour. He was at the Battle Of Justland in 1916, on the dreadnought HMS St.Vincent, which inflicted most of the damage on the German Fleet - His son (my grandfather) also did long service in the RN, as did my father in WW2.
