Howard, thank you for your response. We are definitely cousins through both our gr gr grandfathers! I only recently found Wm.
WAYT's will of 1843 Green Co.,VA...that noted my gggrandfather, Wm.F.TWYMAN as gr son of William. Your gggrandfather, Newton
Wayt was also a grandson.
John TWYMAN m Margaret "Peggy" WAYT 1809
Orange Co.,VA. In my research I found the
following in a Family Bible record Barren
Co.,KY. "Margaret Peggy WAYT b27 Feb 1790.
William WAYT married MARY 5 Feb 1789 & married NANCY GIBBS 18Nov 1802"
I have reason to suspect that MARY, mo of
Margaret WAYT was Mary HODGES.(no proof..)
This MARY must have died shortly after Margaret's birth, thus the other children
mentioned in William Wayt's will must have been "of" Nancy GIBBS. Plus, William must have had a dtr(unnamed in will) that married W.C.GIBBS, as a gr son, Wm.W.Gibbs
is mentioned.
I know little of George WAYT. I know that
in 1773 Albemarle Co.,VA he purchased land
from William TWYMAN(b1727)leading to speculation, by Reverend Woods, in his "History of Albemarle Co." that George WAYT had married a dtr of William TWYMAN.
Land was on Ivy Creek in Albemarle. You had to be 21 to purchase land, thus George
Wayt born before 1752.The 1st of William TWYMAN's children was born in 1754, thus this would work out "generation wise"
Have you found a will for an old George
WAYT? I'm wondering IF possibly there was
a generation between George & William Wayt, ie maybe a George in the middle? I did find, in Orange Co.,VA 1782 Tax, a James WAYT that had 13 whites & 2 blacks in HH. Thinking he had to be pretty old in 1782 to have 13 in HH! I have even thought
that Wm.Wayt of the 1843 will could have had father, John..since Wm. apparently named his only son, John.
Any thoughts? Again, thank you for your
response. I am currently working with another WAYT researcher via EMail...who is
a descendent of GEORGE WAYT m ELIZABETH
(who we believe is Elizabeth TWYMAN)& had
dtr, Catherine Wayt b1770 who married Elijah GARTH in 1803. We believe there was
a WAYT/TWYMAN connection long before 1809.
Again..happy to share.
