I don't know if this will be much help to you but Matthew E(or C) Watts (son of Jake L Watts) married Margaret J _____ (b abt 1870) of Texas. They were married abt 1892.
Their first child, Mary Alline Watts (1893-1975) was my ggrandmother through her son, Harold Ponder Swindall (1916-2003). Matthew E states on the 1900 census his and his parents' birthplace as Alabama. According to the 1890 census, Matthew E's birthplace is Alabama, but Jake is said to be born in NC. I suppose this could be a common census error which so often occurs, but if you have an other info, I would appreciate any suggestions. I am still stumped on any Jake L info.
