James, Thomas, Andrew and Margaret Watts were the children of Thomas and Sarah Watts. They departed Belfast Ireland, on Christmas Eve, 1766 on the ship the Earl of Hillsborough. They landed at Charles Towne, SC in Feb. 1767.We have followed their moves after the American in which all three boys served. They settled at first in what became Abbeville Co., SC (Boonesborough Township)There was also an Athur Watts on the ship who received land and was either another child or perhaps a younger brother of Thomas the father.James and Thomas married Norwood sisters, Agnes (Anne) and Mary, the daughters of Samuel and Elizabeth Norwood.James was born about 1754-55 and Thomas 1763-64.Andrew and Margaret were between these two.on the ships passenger list James was 12 and Thomas was 4.All of the records I have found on these men state that they were born in Ireland, though they were probably Scots since both signed the charter for Greenville Presbyterian Church in Abbeville Co.Thomas died Feb. 1841 in Jasper C0., Texas.James died in Highland Co., OH about 1828, I think.Would have to search it out.I have not found a Richard in this family. There could have been another child after they arrived in SC, but I have never found one.I think Thomas must have been the only one who came south and west. The others, maybe even Margaret went to Highland Co.The only matches for James and Thomas in the Watts/Watson DNA family project are for these two men or their descendants.I was told by the project manager that they are the only ones who have shown the Irish connection.Hope this helps.Jean
