Rufus Pinkney Watts, born September 25, 1849, in Sumter, Sumter District, South Carolina and died on July 22, 1904 in Stamford, Texas was a brother to my greatgrand mother, Martha Calhoun Watts. She born on June 30, 1840 in Sumter, Sumter District, South Carolina and died September 11, 1925 in Johnson County, Texas and is buried at Watts Chapel (named after another brother, Nathaniel Franklin), just north of Grandview, Texas. They were two of fourteen children born to Alexander McIntosh Watts and Martha Dandridge Spann Watts.
Alexander Watts, born January 17, 1813 Sumter, Sumter District, South Carolina died on June 12, 1892 in Palestine, Anderson County, Texas and is buried in the Old Palestine Cemetery.
Martha Dandridge Spann was born near Halifax, N.C. and died August 21, 1886 inAnderson County, Texas and is buried in the cemetery next to Fields Chapel Methodist Church which is between Palestine (Anderson County) and Rusk (Cherokee County).
They were married September 24, 1837 in the Rembert Methodist Church, Rembert, SC. which in still standing and in good repair. I was there year before last and it is a pretty little country church in the woods next to a cemetery.
I have more information if you would like it.
