I'm interestd in finding out more!
A brief personal history:
I currently live in Holland - my immediate family lives in Portsmouth. The lineage is as follows:-
Ruth (+2 brothers & 1 sister)
Father : Paul C. Waterston (brothers Neil (2 sons)& Piers (1 son))
Grandfather: William Waterston (Liverpool) - currently 90 years of age.

Here is the story as I heard it from Grandpa.
He was an only child of his parents who had moved to Liverpool and opened a pu/discotheque, having left the North East. My great grandfather was the balck sheep of a family of 5 or 6 brothers.
The links with Soctland are known and the family ran several successful businesses inlcuding Waterstons the stationers - who originally were responsible for printing the Scottish pound note. THey were quite closed and only allowed other Waterstons to invest in their business activities.

Other Noth Eastern family businesses including boat building - at at one time building hte boats for Cambridge for the infamous boat race against Oxford!

The origin of hte name - according to my sources - is that there were two brothers called "Waterson" and they had a big family feud - to the extent that one brother cut all ties with the family and put a "t" in his name!

Since being "on line" I have tried to find other Waterstons via ICQ and am waiting for "chat" permissions from people in Canada, the U.S., South Africa and Australia. I do remember that when we lived in Birmingham there were only three of us int eh phone book - us, my uncle and an unknown family. In Portsmouth we are the only ones!

Look forward to hearing more from you.

Kind regards
