OBITUARY
The subject of this sketch was born in Hamilton County, Indiana, in l846.His parents were both natives of Ohio and he was the second child in a family of nine children. He came, with his parents, to Ottumwa, Iowa, in l849, but in l850, they moved to Knox County, Illinois. In l857, they again moved to Iowa, this time settling in Jefferon County. In l860, they moved to Decatur County, where from l4 years of age he grew to manhood.
On January 5th, l868, he was married to MISS MARY MCINTYRE.To this union five children were born: PHILA A., the wife of JAMES W. DOWNEY; OLIVE ADELLA, wife of SOLON D. MCCROSKEY; NETTIE, the wife of LEWIS C. THOMPSON; EDITH C., the wife of HARRY O. TUTTLE, and CLARK, who married PINK WATSON, of Decatur.
His confidence in God never wavered and he had all confidence in the Savior and His power to save.
WILSON FIERCE was truly converted forty-seven years ago and united with the Protestant Methodist Church where he held his membership until the society to which he belonged was discontinued, when he transferred to the Methodist Episcopal Church at Van Wert and remained a faithful member until his death. His Christian integrity was never doubted and while he was ready to die, he said only a few days before his death he "would like to live a few more years that he might praise and serve God a little longer."In civil life he was a hard-working, patriotic citizen, always ready to serve his neighbor, his community and his country.
After nine weeks of suffering, he passed away at his home in Van Wert, Iowa, on the 25th day of November, l92l, aged 75 years, l0 months and 2l days. The children, with their families, were all pesent during his last illness and ministered to his wants until the end came, but these could not hold him when God called.
Besides the children already named, he leaves a devoted wife, two brothers, four sisters, three grandchildren and many, many friends; three grandchildren and one great grandchild having preceded him.
Funeral services were held November 25th at the Methodist Church in Van Wert and the body was laid to rest in the Van Wert Cemetery beside his father, mother and a brother, the casket being borne by immediate relatives: CLARK FIERCE, the son; J.W. DOWNEY, S.D. MCCROSKEY, L.C. THOMPSON and H.O. TUTTLE, sons-in-law, and L.E. OHAIR, a grandson by marriage.Rev. J.A. Branson, a former Pastor, and Rev. V.W. Henderson, the present Pastor, conducted the service, using a text of his own selection: "As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness."--Psalm, l7:l5.
