Watson/Hunt/Harvey/Hope
There is a relationship between Hunt, Harvey, Watson, and Hope families of Knox, Roane, and Blount counties living in some proximity where these counties meet (in the 1820-50 time period) which I am still exploring as clues to unraveling more information on my Hunt family. I need help in not going astray in my research on these four families: Thomas Hunt of Blount County, James Hope of Roane County, John Watson of Roane County, and Thomas Harvey of Knox County. Two of Thomas Hunt's children married children of Thomas Harvey. One Hunt child married a daughter of John Watson. Two Harvey children appear to have married the same Hope daughter. One Hunt child may have married a Hope daughter (The Eliza Hope-William Hunt marriage in this string. One Hunt child married a daughter of John Watson. The marriages are William M. Hunt to Eliza (Hope?) if so 9/18/1839 Roane Co., TN, Absolom Hunt to Nancy Harvey 8/15/1838 Knox Co., Thomas Hunt Jr. to Mary Finley Watson 8/20/1840 in Roane Co., Martha Cassandra Hunt to William Harvey 7/11/1839 in Blount Co., Cynthia Hope to (1) James N. Harvey 12/17/1833 and (2)John Rufus Harvey ca 1837, Rebecca Harvey to James Martin 6/4/1850 (The wife of John Watson was Martha Martin).
Family tradition is that Eliza Hunt on the 1850 census is a Peoples, but her age on that census (37) fits closely with the 12/15/1812 birth on the data recorded and posted here by Ronny Bodin under Hale Hardin Hope. So far, I have found no marriage record for a William Hunt and a Peoples (Eliza or other name).
William and Eliza's known children were named Susan Elizabeth b 1840, Thomas Jefferson b. 1842, James M. b. ca 1843, Louvisa b. 1846, and Stephen b. 1852.
Like others, on some census indexes, I could find no Hunts for 1830-40 in Roane County, but an examination of actual census records indicates there were other Hunt families in the Roane County vicinity of some of these familes. They are Tarlton Hunt and James Hunt (p. 025A lines 1 and 2) and only a few lines away from Lemuel Lain (line 8) and Wm. Hope (line 25). In 1840 there was a Mellinda Hunt(11-100010001) indicating perhaps a widow with her mother or mother-in-law in the home to help care for the children). In 1850 there is a Tarlton Hunt, 60, Tn (although another source shows him from Virginia), Sarah 50, Hezekiah 20, William A. 17, Nancy M. B. 13, and Sarah A. 11.
