Hi Karen:
We may well have a connection, since the name Watson is very rare in Ireland, and you are the first person I've found who has relatives from Longford with the same name.My great great grandfather was John Watson from Longford, he was born in 1826 and died in 1908 in Wisconsin. His father was also named John Watson and was married to Rebecca Hamilton Doherty. They had 5 children:George, Rebecca, John, Sara and Maria. A number of them stayed in Ireland. My gggrandfather left between 1840-50 and went to NY.
We were in Longford a few years ago and were able to find a few traces of the Watsons, but not many.
I'm also a retired teacher!I can send you a link to what I have on Ancestry if you are interested.
Best,
Marti Gorun
